Airconditioned Attic

Published by Michael Slater at 6:53 pm under Luke Slater

√   Hummingbirds weave their hanging next in the bougainvilla bushes planted int the fences of neighboring houses.   Asked Luke what the nests were today.  His answer?  “Bird Hives”

√   Luke was hanging out in the attic with me this afternoon. He went back downstairs to fetch something.  I heard THUMP of him slipping on the stairs.

Then  I heard THUMP THUMP

Then a krunk

THUNK THUNK BUNK

It was a long time

Then THUNKABUMP

Then I’m thinking, “Wow!”

I looked down the steps and the little man is face down, head first, splayed superman-style down the stairs!  I picked him up and he was suitably scared and alarmed.  Fifteen minutes of goo-gooin and he was good.  I think he sprained his wrist or hand a bit, so he was delighted to have his hand wrapped in a “splint” made of some old t-shirt material in my cabinet.

He’s fine now though.  Even dragged all the visitors (Mama Kang, Aunty Nini, Ee, Ah-Ma) all to the stairs where he tried to reenact his heroic fall. He sat on the steps and then would lean face forward down.  Little drama king….

I have notified the proper authorities….Grandfather & I will be assuming parental control within the week. You heartless beast. Nice trick with the homemade NORMAN splint. Hope Luke doesn’t require any further medical assistance before we assume custody.

Let’s see…….a fall down the stairs which you didn’t witness so you don’t know exactly how he hit? You think he sprained his wrist? One time Morgan fell off the monkey bars of her swing set. Didn’t hit particularly hard. Wig and I saw it happen. She came up crying on the porch holding her wrist. We sat there for a bit calming her etc. Didn’t look broken. Didn’t act like it was broken. Etc. ETc. Well, being that she was a child we took her for an xray. Guess what!!!! Compression fracture. I had never heard of such a thing. She wore a cast for several weeks.

Another example: In January auntie mary twisted her ankle. Hurt like hell but I had pain pills and every day it seemed to get better. So here it is about 5 months later and it still is snapping etc. The orthopedic guy, as well as your mother said………WHY DIDN’T YOU GET IT XRAYED? The answer……cause I thought is was no big deal etc. etc. I was probably wrong.

Perhaps my new name should be stupid aunt gimpy? lol

Rub dirt on it and take a lap.

Luke is like a little kid I knew who split his chin then flew to California without a wimper.

    Glad Luke is OK.
